A new walking netball session at One NK is inviting women and men to rediscover their love of the sport or try a fun new team activity.
The sessions take place at the leisure centre in North Hykeham every Monday from 11am to 12pm and are open to anyone with an interest in the sport who would like to stay active in a friendly and relaxed environment.
The activity is particularly suited to beginners and older adults, including those who may have played netball in the past and are looking for a gentle way to return to the game. While the sessions are currently attended by women, men are also very welcome to join.
Louise Mellows, GLL North Kesteven Health Co-Ordinator, said: “Many of the women who attend have played netball before, but for some this was more than 20 years ago, and they are really enjoying getting back into the sport. The session is suitable for people with or without previous experience, and we would welcome more women and men to come along, get active, and experience the team spirit we’re building.”
She added: “Netball is a sport many played at school, but the idea of returning to the standard game can feel quite intimidating as you get older. By introducing a walking netball, we’re hoping to offer a more accessible way for people who may currently be inactive to take part in an activity they enjoy, at a comfortable pace.”
Linda White (aged 69) said: “I haven’t played netball since school, and my running days are over, so it’s a good way to still play the sport, but at a slower pace.”
Olwyn Bailey (aged 73) added: “I love the sessions. They’re very social and interactive, and it’s nice to be involved with people of different ages and abilities.”
Sessions cost £3 per person, and while participants can simply turn up on the day, those wishing to secure a place can pre-book online by visiting https://www.better.org.uk/leisure-centre/north-kesteven/one-nk.
