A full list of road closures has been confirmed ahead of Lincoln hosting the first leg of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men’s event next month.

On Wednesday, September 2, the first stage of the free-to-attend sporting event will take place in Lincoln, with thousands of spectators expected to line the streets.

A number of temporary road closures will be in place throughout the day to ensure the safety of participants and thousands of spectators.

There will be clearly signed local diversion routes in place where possible, and details of the diversion routes for the A57 and A1500 will be published closer to the event.

Councillor David East, executive member for highways at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming the Tour of Britain to Lincoln and showcasing the city to a national and international audience.

“Many of the roads used for the finish are familiar to residents and cycling fans, following sections of the iconic Lincoln Grand Prix route, including the challenging climb of Michaelgate and the spectacular finish around the Cathedral Quarter.”

He continued: “To allow the race to take place safely, a number of temporary road closures will be needed throughout the day.

“We’ve published the full list of closures now so residents, businesses and visitors can plan ahead.

“Clearly signed local diversion routes will be in place wherever possible to help people continue travelling around the city.”

Councillor East added: “We’d encourage everyone to check the timings before travelling and allow extra time for their journeys where needed.

“Details of the diversion routes for the A57 and A1500 will be published closer to the event.

“We’d like to thank everyone in advance for their patience and support as we prepare to host this fantastic sporting event.”

The first stage of the annual event will start and finish in the city, ahead of stage two on Thursday, September 3, which will start in Boston and end in Skegness.

The event will then move onto stages in Hull to Beverley, Hemsley to Leyburn, and Earlston.

Councillor Natalie Oliver, executive member for culture at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “Hosting the Tour of Britain is a huge moment for Lincolnshire.

“As the country’s biggest free-to-attend sporting event, it gives us an incredible opportunity to showcase our city, our county and everything we have to offer to millions of people watching in person and on television.”

She added: “Events like this bring significant cultural and economic benefits, attracting visitors, supporting local businesses and inspiring people of all ages to get involved in cycling and physical activity.

“We’re proud to be welcoming some of the world’s best riders to Lincoln and look forward to giving them a warm Lincolnshire welcome.”
