Plans have been submitted for a new community pool just outside Lincoln.
It would be warmer than most pools, and provide introductory swimming lessons and parent-and-baby sessions amongst other activities.
The plans have been submitted for an unused office and workshop on the Exchange Road business park in North Hykeham.
The pool would measure 10 by five metres, and be accessible to those who might find larger pools difficult.
The plans outline it will help deal with the shortage of swimming lessons in the area which means children are missing out, and make swimming more accessible for all.
“The proposed development is to provide a small-scale, community-focused swimming facility delivering structured learn-to-swim lessons, parent-and-baby sessions, and warm-water aquatic activity in a controlled and supportive environment,” documents says.
“The pool will operate at a higher temperature than standard leisure facilities, making it particularly suitable for babies, younger children, beginner swimmers and older adults.”
It will also function as a registered swimming teacher training site, helping to educate more people in the area.
The plans add: “There is a clear gap in access to suitable swimming provision locally, particularly for weekend and beginner-focused sessions.
“Existing facilities are operating at capacity, with the partner swim school currently holding a waiting list of over 30 families and having already been unable to accommodate a number of children due to limited pool availability.”
The pool “will provide an intimate setting for those who may struggle with the larger, more commercial pool settings”.
The proposed opening hours are 7am to 10pm Monday to Friday, 7am to 7.30pm on Saturdays and 8am to 2pm Sunday, and it would create one full time and two part-time jobs.
It will be determined by North Kesteven District Council’s planning department in the future.
