The number of calls Lincs Police receive over ghost sightings

People in Lincolnshire have reported a number of ghostly sightings and UFOs to the police in the past year.

As we all know, the county has a number of apparently haunted or spooky locations.

Whether its eerie abandoned houses, forgotten airbases or creepy pathways, some say Lincolnshire is one of the most haunted counties in the UK.

However, it is still surprising that many ghostly sightings are reported to Lincolnshire Police each year.

A Freedom of Information request by Lincolnshire Live found that between March 2020 and April 2021, five reports of ghosts from members of the public were received by the force.

In addition, the same request found that Lincolnshire Police received one single report of UFOs, during the same period.

Of course every year, there are hundreds of sightings of unidentified flying objects around the world.

In 2019, Boston was named as one of the top ten places in the UK to spot a UFO.

Whilst mysterious flashing lights are a fairly common sight across our county, expecting the police to launch a response seems slightly bizarre to say the least.

ACC Chris Davison said: “Whenever we get a report of strange phenomena, including UFOs and ghosts, we utilise our Strange Phenomena Observational Operations Force (SPOOF) to investigate.

“Joking aside, we look at each report and assess the threat and risk based on the available information and respond accordingly.

“We may not be the best organisation to contact regarding close encounters of the alien or supernatural kind, as we tend to concentrate our efforts on protecting victims, preventing crime and catching offenders on earth.”

The Lincolnshire Ghost Hunters team said: “We believe the police should not be contacted unless you believe someone is breaking the law or you feel in danger. Often with sightings, the police, nor anyone else, can do anything about it.

“Our advice would be to get as much evidence as possible as to what happened and to share on like-mined social media pages.”

Back in July 2020, a man captured video footage of a possible UFO flying in the sky above Lincolnshire.

The footage, was filmed over the A151 near Bourne, and remains unexplained.
