Following yesterday’s announcement, Lincoln and the rest of Lincolnshire is to remain in Tier Three for at least the remainder of December.

It has since been revealed that a mobile coronavirus testing unit is coming to the city this weekend and will stay for the festive period.

Although Lincoln’s rate of infection has fallen in recent days it is still much higher than the majority of the country.

While there is a Local Testing Site currently in place at the University of Lincoln’s Joseph Banks Laboratories, this new mobile testing unit will be sited at the LNER Stadium in the Sincil Bank area of the city.

The unit arrives on Sunday 20 December and will be in place throughout Christmas until 28 December. It will return on 2 January for three days. Its opening times will be from 9am to 3pm daily, with the exception of Christmas Day when appointments will be available between 10am to 2.30pm.

Derek Ward, Director of Public Health for Lincolnshire County Council, said: “Infection rates in Lincoln remain higher than the majority of the county so this extra mobile testing unit is an important addition for people to use.

“I would urge all those who have symptoms to get tested, no matter how mild. Please isolate yourself and book a slot as soon as you can. While you wait for a test and the result, please continue isolating to ensure the safety of others.”

Cllr Ric Metcalfe, Leader of City of Lincoln Council, said: “It is crucial that we try to lower the rate of infection in Lincoln.

“Together, we need to focus on the wellbeing of our residents and do all we can to lower the number of infections in the city in order to protect the most vulnerable in our community.

“The unit located in Sincil Bank will be there throughout the festive season and open every day, including Christmas Day.

“It is essential for the health of our residents and the economic security of many of our businesses that we climb out of Tier Three as quickly as possible. To do this, we must all step up and do everything we can to help keep ourselves, our friends and our families safe.

“Therefore, if you have any symptoms whatsoever, I ask that you play your part in keeping the city safe and book a coronavirus test. It’s quick and easy to do and could save your life or the life of those you hold dear.”

Those requiring a test must book a slot. This can be done from Sunday 20 December by either calling 01522 510157 or visiting www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
