Angered police officers have hit-out at a 999 caller who dialled the emergency phone line to complain their takeaway sandwich was too cold – twice.
The Lincolnshire Police control room team took to social media to lambast the caller who they say was taking up ‘valuable resources’.
They have now urged families to only key-in 999 in the event of an emergency.
Officers didn’t say if they spoke to the caller or if they faced any repercussions.
A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “Please don’t ring 999 (twice!) to complain about the fact your sandwich was cold from a take-away.
“It is not an emergency and it definitely not a Police matter. Using the 999 system for reasons like this just ties up valuable resources!”
On the force website officers pledge to prosecute anyone who may be misusing the 999 system.
It reads: “We do unfortunately receive hoax and nuisance calls. It is illegal to make hoax calls.
“Doing this puts lives at risk by preventing us from answering genuine emergency calls. We will prosecute persons who intentionally misuse the communications systems.”
