Gasworks cause chaos on road into Gainsborough forcing drivers to queue for miles

Motorists have faced long delays getting into Gainsborough via Trent Bridge due to gas mains work in Lea Road.

Traffic was backed up for two miles between about 8am and 1pm on Wednesday, November 3 and motorists also reported disruption the previous day.

The issue appears to have been the timing of temporary traffic lights put in place instead of the usual lights at the Lea Road/Bridge Street/Bridge Road crossroads.

Lisa Williamson, 44, the manager of Nibbles Sandwich Bar, in Lea Road, said the traffic was so bad that people could not get to the shop and staff could not make deliveries.

She said: “The traffic was queueing past the shop so people could not pull in and come to us.

“People from over the Trent said it had taken one-and-a-half hours to get into town.

“We also make deliveries across the river which we could not do.

“My delivery girl was stuck in traffic for an hour and 25 minutes. It’s ridiculous.

“We were not told anything about it in advance.

“The first I heard was on Tuesday when my girl telephoned and said she was stuck at the Beckingham roundabout.”
