TEDxBrayford Pool is Lincoln’s annual led TED conference and festival. This year’s event, held on November 2nd and 3rd at theLincoln Arts Centre, will be centred around the theme “United by Ideas,” emphasizing
collaboration, creativity, and the power of shared knowledge to tackle global challenges.
In a groundbreaking first, TEDxBrayford Pool has partnered with TEDxKyiv, marking the
inaugural international collaboration between these two TEDx communities. This unique
partnership will bring together speakers from both Lincolnshire and Ukraine, creating a
platform for voices that transcend borders, cultures, and experiences.
An International Stage: Lincolnshire and Ukraine United by Ideas
The theme “United by Ideas” captures the heart of this year’s collaboration, offering a rare
opportunity to engage with diverse perspectives on pressing global issues, from
technological innovation to social justice. In light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, this
partnership provides a platform for Ukrainian voices, silenced by war, to share their stories,
insights, and solutions. It also represents a profound cultural exchange, where local voices
from Lincolnshire meet international perspectives, creating a dialogue that resonates
globally.
Inspiring Speaker Lineup from Two Nations
This year’s TEDxBrayford Pool event will feature an exciting roster of speakers from
Lincolnshire and Ukraine, whose talks cover a wide range of topics. Some of the standout
speakers include:
● Valerii Dzekh, a Ukrainian soldier and puppeteer, who will discuss how art therapy
through puppetry is helping soldiers and children envision a future beyond war. He
will also perform using the puppets he’s created especially for frontline audiences.
● Jane Davydiuk, a technologist and COO, who will explore the creation of a
“Wikipedia for Wartime” and how it challenges stereotypes and misinformation.
● Mel Standbrook, a disruptor and educator, who will share her expertise on how
preventative education can reduce knife crime and improve youth safety.
● Jack Shelbourn, a filmmaker and environmentalist, who will examine the
environmental impact of the film and television industry and propose sustainable
alternatives.
● Iryna Slavinska, a healthcare reformer and founder of DonorUA, who played a
pivotal role in maintaining Ukraine’s blood supply during the war and will share her
experiences on building a resilient healthcare system under extraordinary
circumstances.
Ukrainian voices will be further highlighted by performer Iryna Muha, a musician and
performer, and speakers like Yuliia Liubchenko, an artist and educator exploring the
intersection of creativity and psychological support in times of conflict.
A Weekend of Ideas Worth Spreading
TEDxBrayford Pool’s collaboration with TEDxKyiv is more than just a local event—it’s a
global conversation. With over 20 speakers and performers taking the stage, the two-day
event promises to spark new ideas, challenge conventional thinking, and inspire action on
the most critical issues facing our world today.
TEDxBrayford Pool has been a cornerstone of the Lincoln community since its inception in
2017, showcasing ideas that matter from the heart of the UK’s innovation-rich Lincolnshire.
Now, with its first international partnership, the event expands its reach even further,
emphasizing that while we may be divided by geography, we are united by the power of
ideas.
