Mind Museums and Star Trek

11 May @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

£5

Tickets are now on sale for the world’s largest festival of public science talks, which will see eighteen researchers take to the stage in venues across Lincoln. University of Lincoln researchers will be speaking at three venues across the city: The Pessimist, The Cardinal’s Hat, and The Victoria. As well as two talks, each event will also include a quiz with prizes to be won, and a viewing of Creative Reactions – artworks inspired by the speakers’ research.

Pint of Science Event: Mind Museums and Star Trek

ReMIND Museums
Dr Francesca Lanz (Senior Lecturer in Interior Architecture and Design)
What do people remember of their museum visits? How do visitors remember their museum experience and make sense of it? What bodies, interfaces, technologies and devices are active within acts of remembering? This talk will discuss the adaptive reuse of former asylums as ‘mind museums’ and visitors’ memories of their visits.

Treknology – the influence of Star Trek on real-life science and technology
Dr Chris Dows (Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing)
Star Trek has been entertaining viewers for over half a century, and while much of it is very much science fiction, a surprising amount is (or has become) science fact. This talk will look at the main influences Star Trek has had on technology and scientific thinking over the years, and explore how it incorporates the latest thinking and engineering in its shows and films.
